Quarterly Report

Trimester First (March-July)- 2013

 


Introduction

The Government of Nepal (GoN) in collaboration with the Governments of Finland, Switzerland and the UK are establishing and supporting implementation of the Multi Stakeholder Forestry Programme (MSFP). The MSFP aims to improve livelihoods and resilience of poor and disadvantaged people in Nepal through sustainable and equitable management of forest resources. The programme is implemented by non-government implementing agencies in selected districts in which Rural Reconstruction Nepal is implementing in Sankhuwasava district. For implementing program, local implementing partner organizations in the district under the NGO alliance, Society Development Center (SODEC) as a lead organization and The East Foundation (TEF) have been selected. After selection the agreement between RRN/MSFP and NGO alliance has been effective from May 24 2013 to Feb. 28, 2014. As per agreement, the NGO alliance is responsible for implementing field level activities mainly local forestry group formation and strengthen, operation plan preparation and revision, enterprise establishment and promotion, livelihoods and income generating as well as quick impact activities for pro poor growth, climate change related activities, identify poor and vulnerable households, community land allocation, promote pro poor alternative and renewable energy, NTFP cultivation and management, support to LFGs in the areas of good governance and GESI.

 

As the assignment of program, the NGO alliance has implemented as per the following activities. Although the constraints of time bond and farming season, by the end of reporting period, we have implemented mainly the activity of outcome 4 in this trimester. Some of the activities are implementing in the field which is given in table 1, activity planning. The staffs of NGO alliance have been participated in carbon mapping, forest constitution and operational plan and taxus nursery production training in this period because the season of this area in high for farming and nobody can involve in any activities. As defined VDCs for the initial phase of program implementation, we have studied the basic information and analysed the previous supports form LFP/DFID since 2002 to 2012. 1.1.1 VDC Level Introductory Program

The program was launched for beginning of Multi Stakeholder Forestry Program in the respective VDCs-Sidhapokhari, Sidhakali, Nundhaki, Mawadin, Madimulkharks and Tamaphok. It was held planning of a day in VDCs. Altogether 93 participants were participated including 29 (31.18%) female participants. The total expenditure was in sum of Rs.11998.00. (For the detail information please see in the annex-1)

 

 

1.1.2 Support to communities on NTFP cultivation and management (Budget code:4.1.4)

To meet the outcome 4: Forests and trees sustainably managed by government, communities and private sector and climate resilient, it was implemented in feasible area of the district by mobilizing community forest user groups and private sectors. It is right season for plantation and still going on plantation. The progress of activity is given below: (For the detail information please see in the annex-2)

The total plantation of saplings is 35 thousand. Out of 35 thousand 29 thousands of saplings are planted in Community forest and 6 thousand is in private land. It covers 167 ropani of the area.
